Is SSArc.exe used to backup the entire VSS database?

I have a .net 2.0 solution and among the projects I have a website. they are
all under VSS source control.
everyday I open my solution and I see that my webproject was being displayed
as 'http:\\localhost\MySiteUI'.

I have a lot of messages like "database is corrupted", "file is corrupted",
"can't read from file", and so on.
Is it possible to repair VSS database?

How do you remove old VSS database names from the list of available vss
databases? I googled for hours and can't find the tip I read two weeks ago

In the company I work for they are not using VSS but I am trying to convince
them of the benefits.  One problem they have cited is that many people
throughout the organisation have editing rights to text contained on many
aspx and ascx files.  They don't however edit any 'code' ...

We use VSS 6 at the shop and we are going to upgrade soon. When i say  
upgrade i mean the whole system. Right now it's Vault or VSS 2005. I want to
download a trial version of 2005 but have had no luck finding it. Does it not
exist? Googled it and nothing really comes up.
