Hi all, right I'm busy on an enterprise project where we are moving to
a .net smart client and first o the joy or so i thought...finding a
tutorial on smart clients or going through msdn is a nightmare, i
wrote an application 2 years back in c#  that used the updater
application block and what a pleasure, now here i am moving from a
thin client (j2ee) and i think this should be straight forward, o how
wrong i am/was...the tutorials out there even the architects and
developer ones from microsoft are not that simple to follow...now
somewhere out there is there a SIMPLE tutorial on build a cab scsf
tutorial ? i'v seen the materials out there and this is just going to
confuse the non microsoft architects and developers
o yes pls dont refer me back to msdn/smart clients, its the worst
place to start
Thanx in advance

If you are going to write your new .Net smart client application using the
n-tier layer model, check out Deborah Kurata's book "Doing Objects in
VB2005" coming out in March. It's great on showing you how to set up the
business layer, data layer, and UI layer and interact between them.

You can also check out Rockford Lhotka's books on that topic.

Another choice for smart client development is the use of Strongly Typed
Datasets (very popular) for your data.

If you want to do CAB/SCSF, I can't help you. The only info I know of is
the stuff on MSDN. I do know of a company that helps with that. It's
IdeaBlade, and their website is http://www.ideablade.com. Check out the
Cabana Project -- they have a link on the front page -- that will probably
help you with CAB development.

Good luck.
