I have a SQL Server 2005 Express database with two tables.

With Visual Studio 2005, in a new project, I create a Class Library called
"TestDataSet."  I delete the "Class1.cs" file from Solution Explorer.

Then I add a new Data Set called "TestDataSet."  I drag the "List" table to
the design surface so that I have a Typed Data Set.  All seems well.

Then I add Windows Form to the project and drag a Combo Box to it.  I select
"Use Data BoundItems" and select the TestDataSet.  When I compile I get
these errors:

The type name 'TestDataSet'does not exist in the type
'TestDataSet.TestDataSet' in file Form.Designer.cs on this line:
 this.testDataSet = new TestDataSet.TestDataSet();

..and this error:

The type name 'TestDataSetTableAdapters' does not exist in the type
'TestDataSet.TestDataSet' in file Form.Designer.cs on this line:
   this.listTableAdapter = new
TestDataSet.TestDataSetTableAdapters.listTableAdapter();

This is code that VS is generating... why the errors??

Hi Marty,

I performed a test based on your description and did reproduce the problem
on my side.

The reason of this problem is that the DataSet has the same name as the
project default namespace.

When you add an instance of the DataSet onto a form, the designer generates
a line of code in the InitializeComponent method to new the DataSet
instance and the type in this line of code is full name, i.e.
"this.testDataSet = new TestDataSet.TestDataSet();". The problem is that
the compiler considers the first 'TestDataSet' in this line of code to be a
type, which is actually a namespace, so the compiler doesn't know what the
second 'TestDataSet' refers to and throws a compilation error.

To solve this problem, delete the DataSet named 'TestDataSet' in your
project and add a new DataSet with a different name from the project
default namespace.

Hope this helps.
If you have any question, please feel free to let me know.

Sincerely,
Linda Liu
