I've heard that VS 2003 won't run on Vista... is that true? If so, is
there a timeline for correcting this?

I can't remember where I heard this so you could treat it with due skeptisism
but I heard that 2003 is not going to be supported in Vista.
However .Net 1.1 and (1.0 for that matter) applications should run fine (assuming
that you take into account the more stringent security issuesthat come with
vista)

You're right, it says on the MS site that VS 2003 is not supported on
Vista. However it appears
to run (not sure how well) as they have a known issues list for it.
Basically they don't
support anything officially before VS 2005.
Cheers,
Gordy,
Since Framework 1.x is not supported under Vista, it would make sense that
VS2003 would also be unsupported.
You can force Framework 1.1 to install with the ypical Vista warnings.

You don't need to put 1.0 or 1.1 on vista as compiled code written for these
frameworks should run under 2.0 or 3.0(which as mentioned is still 2.0 +
extras) and hence run on vista fine.
