I thought I would be downloading an .iso file. What do I need to
do to extract the .img and install it?

Thanks.

You could use the Microsoft Virtual CD-ROM Control Panel :

).

Unfortunately, that doesn't support .img files.

Why in the world is the vs2005 trial download .img and not .iso?

Well, that is the way I used to install VS2005 trial, so I am pretty
sure that .img files are supported. Try to reboot after installing the
MS Virtual CD-ROM Control Panel.
