I am running into a minor issue and I hope you can quickly help me.
I am trying to install Visual Studio 6.0 on a Win2003 Server machine. I ran
into an issue with “Setup was unable to create a DCOM user account in order
to register <path>\valec.exe”
I searched online and found MS Article 257413 and this is a known bug at MS.
So I did what it said and installed fine.
I am now trying to install Visual Studio Service Pack 6 and now I ma getting
“Visual Studio Service Pack 6 was not completed successfully”.
Can you please help me with this matter?
Thank you

This doesn't solve your problem, but ...
Quite a while ago I ran into the same problems installing VS6 (in WinXP) to
support older code. I had to track down the old MS JVM and jump through
other hoops, including a repair install for XP, to get it installed and up
to date.
When I built my next machine, I installed Win2000 in VPC to "host" my VS6
environment. *Much* easier, IMO.

BobF,
Thanks for the reply, however, I am afraid I don't understand. My # is
listed, do you have time to discuss at your earliest convenience?
thanks

As I said before, I did "jump thru hoops" and get VS6 w/SP6 installed and
running correctly on a WinXP box. It *can* be done.
As I also said before, my suggestion on VPC wasn't a solution to your
problem. Its what was, for me, a much better way to install and use VS6
than what I had previously done.
Good Luck!
