I have heard that Service Pack 1 will fix problems like the genasm errors
you get if a Control has public methods/properties that work with generics.
(Google "genasm error message when adding DesignTimeAttributes.xmta to my
project" if you want more information on that topic.)

My version of VS 2005 says it is version 8.0.50727.42 (RTM.050727-4200). I
suspect I need the SP1 update.

I cannot find information about this update on Microsoft's Visual Studio
site, which seems to be geared more for selling VS Team than for supporting
current VS users.

Anybody know whether SP1 is out yet, or when it is expected to be released?

As far as I know it's not out, and other than rumours of it being
sometime this year, I've not heard anything.

Thanks! I will keep my eyes open for it.

" Visual Studio 2005 Service Pack 1 will focus on addressing product issues
reported during the first few months the product is in the market."

" This service pack is currently targeted for final release in Q3 of 2006."

Still, it's a slight improvement on th VS2003 situation I suppose :-)

The *latest* official date for VS2003 SP1 is August 15, 2006:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/support/servicing/sp1_vs03/default.aspx

However, the date for this release has been postponed so many times in the
past that I will wait to see it available for immediate downloading before
believing it.

Don't believe there is any "release date"..
The March vs 2003 SP1, looks like it may make it by the end of this year,
hence suspect either vs 2005 will become vs 2007 ( much like vs 2003 is vs
2002 SP1) or it will be some time in the second qtr 2007..

Bottom line, you cannot take any notice of any timescales from MSoft, they
knew vs 2005 had numerous breaking bugs, yet released the product and said
that a SP1 would fix them..
That was back in Nov 2005!!!
