converting web app to desktop app

We have a simple web application that basically lets you search a
database of foods, select amount consumed and lists the nutrients. This
is a fairly simple program not a lot of bells and whistles. We want to
be able to convert from a web application to a desktop application. I
know we would have to convert the web controls to desktop controls. The
program was written in visual basic using visual studio.net 2003. There
are 3 modules consisting of about 500 lines of code for each module.
The questions are:

1) does anyone know of a program that will do most of the conversion
automatically. I've heard that a future version of visual studio may
have this capability.

2) for someone with experience in programming, how long would this take
if had to be done manually

3) how much should it cost

Thanks.

No. And if some future version of VS.Net can do it, I would have to guess
that we're talking about XAML here, which is not what is in use today. So,
it will have to be done by a developer.

You would have to have someone who is experienced in programming take a look
and give you a guess. It all depends, on quite a few things. What seems
simple to a non-programmer is often much more complex than it looks. In
addition, it depends on the skill level of the original developer. If it was
well-designed, it could be relatively easy. But if not, well...

Again, that depends. For contracting work, the rate can vary from $50 - $250
per hour. It is important to note that, like many other things, you get what
you pay for. IOW, you might get a cheap programmer, and end up spending a
lot more money in the long run, fixing the existing software and upgrading
it.

patliz1,

The cheapest route could be to have the original author do this.  They
know the software already and could do it in the shortest amount of time
since it was their creation.

At least that's the theory.

What happened to the author?   (Bus terminated project?)

The original author left and i was stuck with the project to finish it
off. I was able t do the forms part and html and formatting and a
little of the vb code.  I have done programming in the past but it has
been years. They want to be able to complete the transformation by
october. I think it would be cheaper if they contracted out the work
and get it done in a month vs paying me to get it done in 3 months. I
would have to learn way too much in a short time span. It really is a
simle program.

I've heard that  vb studio 05 may have a feature that  will allow you
to run an asp.net application on the local machine without having to
install iis. If that is the case than I don't have to do a lot of
converting. Has anybody seen this. I've been looking on their website
and haven't found anything yet.
