Hello all.  I have just installed Windows XP SP2 and am trying to install
Visual Studio.NET 2003 Enterprise Edition and am encountering a "Please go
to the Control Panel in install and configure system components" when
running the first step, "Visual Studio .NET Prerequisites".

I completed the configuration of the default web site but receive this error
regardless of how I launch or begin the installation.

I have relaxed the Firewall, added an exception for the installer, and
turned it off completely.

I have also disabled anti-virus software.

Again, this is SP 2 for XP, so I am finding out what to expect, but cannot
find any help thus far.

All suggestions welcomed.

Thanks in advance!

Try stopping the IIS Service manually and then installing it.

I had a similar problem, couldn't unintall VS .NET 2003 after SP2. I was
trying different things and came across this.

I had not thought of stopping services.  Good idea, but it did not remedy
the problem.

I went ahead and started shutting things down from the
ControlPanel->AdministrativeTools->Services and iterating a re-install
attempt.  Nothing, yet, has permitted me to go forward with the installation
of Visual Studio .NET 2003.

I have also tried installing from a copy on a HDD partition and from CD/DVD.

Any other suggestions, folks?

TIA.

PS  I expanded my reply to include a few more NG's that seem appropriate.
If these are not the correct location to post, please advise additional good
resources.

I just did a full install of VS Professional over XP SP2 and it worked
fine - did you remember to install fronnt page extensions etc. You don't
mention it. I did not need to relax my firewall but I am "stand alone".
Doubt if this helps....

Alas, yes, I did install and configure the FP extensions.  I also install
the .NET Framework 1.1 outside of the installation prerequisite check, just
to get up-and-running, but that did not help, either.

Still trying, though...

hi "M",

i dont know whether or not you have solved your problem. i had the same
problem when trying to install VS 2003. stopping the IIS manually didnt help
and i was always asked for the prerequisites CD because the versions were not
compatible.
so i tried to run the setup from the command line:

x:\msiexex /a vs_setup.msi
where X is your cd-rom drive.

/a is the parameter for admin installation. this finally did the job!

hope you succeed with this as well if you havent already otherwise ;-).

cu!
