Question about Visual Studio 2003 academic version

I have seen the academic version listed for <$300 and all the listings say
"same as pro version" and yet the pro version lists for $1000+.  Is there
truly no difference?  It sounds too good to be true.

You don't even need to bother with three-figure prices let
alone 4, if you look on ebay.
