According to  http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/dnvss/html/vssb
est.asp
(Updated: December 2000):
"... you can store Visual SourceSafe databases on any Microsoft® Windows®-compatible file server (Windows NT®, Novell, Banyan, and so on), database performance is best on Windows NT. Network operations are generally faster. In addition, in the server-based Windows environment you can run Analyze and other highly intensive file I/O operations directly on the server, often dramatically decreasing execution time"

My IT people installs Wins2000 on the new server for VSS, They say that  comparing to WinsNT, Wins2000 has better performance and I/O operations. Is this correct ?

Thanks.

Probably. It might depend on a number of factors. It probably doesn't make a
huge difference in VSS performance either way.
