VSS, VS.Net 2003, Windows 2000 - Checkout woes...

I'm using Visual Studio 2003 on Windows XP Pro to work with a Windows 2000
server that is running the 1.1 .Net framework and 2002 frontpage extensions.
I am using Visual SourceSafe 6.0 with VSS 6.0 Service Pack 6.0 installed.

I get the following error when trying to checkout files from my web server:

Unable to check out file 'WebForm1.aspx.cs'.  Server error: Visual Source
Safe failure.  A "You currently have file $/test/WebForm1.aspx.cs checked
out" error occurred while operating on file "$/test/WebForm1.aspx.cs"
Verify that the file's permissions are correct and that you have write
access to the Visual Source Safe repository.

It actually sends me the file though...

Now, let me say this...  I can check it out once without an error dialog,
but instead of getting the checkbox icon, I get a circle with a line through
it.  Not manager by vss??

Anyway, I go to the server and login as admin and I see that the file was
checked out by the correct account.  For some reason, visual studio isn't
happy...  I have the XP machine successfully using VSS on a Windows 2003
machine.

Any information greatly appreciated!

TIA,
Ben

Make sure that what you have in VSS is what you want (or make a backup of
your local stuff first). Delete everything locally. Then use File->Source
Control->Open from source control to open the solution. If it opens
successfully, things should start working OK.

File -> Source Control -> Everything is shaded.  I can't select anything
from there.

With no solution open, I get Open From Source Control and Microsoft Visual
SourceSafe menu selections enabled on the File->Source Control menu. If
you're not getting that, it sounds like the source control integration isn't
there. You might try running ssint.exe from the vss\win32 directory.

Well, it works fine when I'm doing XP -> 2003 Server, but XP -> 2000 Server
fails.  I'm not inclined to look at software on the XP machine as
problematic.

Thanks,
Ben

I'm afraid I'm a little out of my element here. You sound like you've looked
into things as far as I would be able to, with nothing to account for the
difference except the fact that you're trying to deal with 2000 server
instead of a 2003 server. If the FP Server Extensions are the same on both
server boxes, and the permissions for the particular user is the same on
both shares, then you may want to contact Microsoft Product Support for
further assistance. Sorry I can't help more.
