Hello,

We have Visual Sourcesafe 2005 on a server (SERVERAPP) working ok trough LAN
sourcesafe plugin for VISUAL STUDIO 2005 (AND 2008 in a few days I hope...)

Making some tests I was finally able to configure it for HTTP access (non
secure, without certificate), but only within our LAN and trough SERVERAPP.

The problem is that I don't know how to make people to be able to access vss
from outside our lan, because http requests coming from outside are
redirected to another server (SERVERDADES) with its own IIS.

I tried to make a virtual folder under the main web site on SERVERDADES and
redirect it to the folder and/or url for the vss web service on SERVERAPP,
but it was not able to see it, or it gave me some errors... maybe this is not
the right path.

Another solution could be to establish another port for  the web service and
thus redirect the input for that port to SERVERAPP ? but I don't know how to
establish that port...

How can I achieve it ? wich is the best solution ? do I have to MOVE the
entire database to SERVERDADES and reconfigure it ? (glups)

Some more data:

Serverapp is WINDOWS SERVER 2003, and serverdades is windows 2000 (too old).
Both have its own IIS, of course.

Thanks in advance

Hello Roger,

IIS couldn't forward HTTP request to another server. It just redirects the
request. When end user browser website on SERVERDADES, IIS on SERVERDADES
will tell end user that the Request should be send to SERVERAP. Then IE
will send another HTTP Request to SERERAPP. But, because there is no Public
IP address bind with server SERERAPP. The request will failed on DNS.

In this scenario, you need a proxy server (such as ISA) to forward HTTP
Request to the backend IIS server. When HTTP Request arrives at ISA Server,
ISA Server will forward the request to backend IIS server directly, rather
than ask IE to send another request.
However, if you haven't any ISA Server so far, I'm afraid to say you may
have to deploy the whole VSS database on SERVERDADES...

Hope this helps. Please feel free to let me know if there is anything
unclear. We are glad to assist you.
Have a great day,
Best regards,

Wen Yuan

Hello,

Thanks for your answer.

Fortunately, yes, we have ISA SERVER.

Can you tell me more details about how to forward this specific request
trough ISA server ?

Bye,

Hello Roger,
Thanks for your reply.

That's great. What you need is to design&create a Web Publishing Rule on
your ISA Server.
Please check the following article:

[Publishing Web Servers Using ISA Server 2004]

Hope this helps. Please feel free to et us know if you have any more
