Yes, I've tried:

* copying and registering dao350.dll independently of the
setup.  Still could not register.
* copying the CD to the hard drive and editing setupwiz.ini
to remove stuff I didn't want.
* Editing the registry to remove all the "performance" keys.

At this point I'm just flat out of ideas.  Looking for any
and all suggestions.  I'm running WinXP Home edition on my
new Sony VAIO notebook with 100gb hard drive and 1g memory.

Thanks for assistance. - Tony Lima

I am not sure of your particular problem, but I have found that VS 6.0 will
not always install if the TEMP variable points to a directory that has path
names that don't follow the 8.3 naming convention. Try creating a directory
c:\temp and set the TEMP environment to it.

Thanks, Mark.  I'll give that a try in the next few days.  - Tony

It's a very frustrating issue, but I finally got it to work.  Get
Exctrlst.exe from:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/techinfo/reskit/tools/existing/exctrls
t-o.asp

On my XP Pro SP2 everything was already enabled except for "PerfOS"
perfos.dll.  Once I enabled that setup ran.  I noticed though that the
setting wasn't maintained after the reboot because of the Java install.
I had to enable it again and rerun setup.

Please report back if if works for you also.

I've downloaded Exctrlst.exe and tried to run it but I'll be
darned if I can tell what/whether it's doing/done anything.  I
have XP Home edition (if that matters).  Can you give me some
clues about using Exctrlst??  Thanks. - Tony

When you run it your "Machine Name" should be listed.  Under "Extensible
Performance Counters" there should be a list like:

PerfDisk        perfdisk.dll
PerfNet        perfnet.dll
PerfOS               perfos.dll
etc...

Just scroll through the list end be sure that the "Preformance Counters
Enabled" checkbox underneath the list is checked for each one.  On my XP
PRO SP2 everything was checked except PerfOS.  Once I enabled that, the
install went fine.  Like I mentioned prviously though, if you reboot
after the Java install, you might have to re-enable it again as the
setting didn't hold for me.
