Greetings!

I installed Visual Studio 2005 Beta 2 on a machine where I had Visual Studio
2005 beta 1. I unstalled Beta 1 before I tried to install Beta 2

I am getting this error when I try to create Data connections:

Unable to add data connection.
Could not load type
"Microsoft.VisualStudio.Shell.Interop.IVsProjectDataConnection' from assembly
'Microsoft.VisualStudio.Shell.Interop.8.0, Version=8.0.0.0,
Culture=neutral,PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a'.

I get simlair errors else where. I have tried:

* Repair
* UnInstall and Reinstall

I also installed on a machine that never had Beta 1 and everthing is working
fine.

Is there a quick fix? If have to uninstall and reinstall, what should I
clean out before I reinstall?

Cheers!

John

Hello John,
Since you have installed beta1 before, this problem is probably caused by
that beta2 is still trying to load the former shell.interop dll.
Please locate Microsoft.VisualStudio.Shell.Interop.8.0 in %windir%\assembly
diretory and delete the assemby which version is not equal 50215. And then
start vsnet2005 beta2.

Please let me know if my answer helps you resolve the problem. If there is
anything more I can assist you, please feel free to let me know.

Thanks,

Greetings Rhett!

Yes I removed the old Microsoft.VisualStudio.Shell.Interop.8.0 and now
everthing is working fine so far. I saw other DLL's in the GAC that had the
same version and public key. I will not mess with those for now.

Cheers!

Hi!

I´ve had the same problem, but I couldn´t delete the assembly...

There are 3 assemblies here:
Microsoft.VisualStudio.Shell.Interop v. 7.1.40304.0
Microsoft.VisualStudio.Shell.Interop.8.0 v.8.0.0.0
Microsoft.VisualStudio.Shell.Interop.8.0 v.8.0.0.0

I couldn´t delete any, msg:
"Assembly could not be uninstalled because it is required by other applications"

VS.NET beta 2 is not running. Any idea?

Thanks a lot!
