VS6 setup

I've got the strangest problem.  I have some code that I need VS6 for.
I'm already running .net 2003 normally.  XP Pro SP1.

I swear I've installed VS6 pro before, but now I get one of those send
error report dialogues when I try to run setup.  Same thing from three
different sets of media.

I finally got install to run by right clicking and running in compat
mode - with MSJVM already installed.  At the end, it said it finished
unsuccessfully due to a grunch of DLL files faiing to register.

It actually runs so far without error, but I would like a nice clean
install of VS6 around in case I need it for something else in the future.

Anybody else seen this?  Any ideas?

TIA,
BobF

For those that may encounter a similar problem ...

1. Restored a previous ghost image.
2. Performed a WinXPSP1a repair install.
3. Installed VS6 Pro.

No crashes, installed MSVMJ without issue.  Only remaining probelm was
install *Completed Unsuccessfully* because of some Acme install failure
- an install I did NOT ask for.

I've tested the installation by building a number of projects and all is
well.  I've also tested the existing .net2003 install without errors.

I think I'm where I need to be!
