I am installing VS.net on a new IBM machine running windows xp. During the
first step (Preqisits) the uninstaller for Access IBM launches and proceeds
to uninstall Access IBM. When I run VS.net installer again the Access IBM
installer launches and re-installs Access IBM.

Access IBM is a utility that comes with the IBM machines that gives a quick
tour of the machine, allows you to configure and do restores.

Any ideas?

In many cases, we have this to be as a result of spyware.  Here is a
possible work around to assist in getting VS.Net installed.

Run the Setup.Exe from the root of the CD-Rom.
Ignore the first prompt about running setup from CD1
On the second prompt choose No.
Then install the product.

HTH.
