Tip: Looking for answers? Try searching our database.

Where did the dialog go?

When I try to display the Find Dialog in Visual Studio .net (2003) by either
cliking on the Binoculars or typing Cntl+F the Find Dialog does not show up.
The current window I'm in is greyed, but no Find Dialog.

If I go to Full Screen Mode and type Cntl +F the  Find Dialog does INDEED
show up.

What rock is this dialog hiding under?

This is a recently installed version of Visual Studio, no adjustments to
defaults have been made.

Hello Gak,

I tested it on my box and the search function works fine in both full
screen mode or normal mode.

I also feel strange on the issue. Could you please help check the following
setting on your machine?

Open VS.NET->tools menu->Options
Select Environment->keyboard in the left pane
In the right pane, we can see a list on keyboard mapping. Please check
edit.find action. We can find that:
Ctrl+F(global) in "Shortcut(s) for selected command:" edit box
Global in "Use new shortcut in" Combo box.

Please check that and let me know whether it is OK already. If not, could
you please try repair VS.NET in control panel->add/remove programs? If the
problem is still here, please feel free to post here and I will have one
VS.NET setup/installation support engineer look into it here.

Thanks very much.

Best regards,
Yanhong Huang

Checked the obvious stuff, also note that this works fine in full screen mode.
I cannot but feel that the dialog is positioned out of the viewing area?
How can I get the dialog back into visible range?

Is there registry or other setting that indicate the position the dialog
should appear at?

Thanks?
