how to find out which codec I need for a MPG file

I created with STUDIO8 an MPG video file option DVD COMPATIBLE.
It is not readable on a DVD and neither on the PCs of my children.
How can I find out (tool, utility?) whivch codec I need for a MPG file ?
Does anybody has a tool or a utility for me ?

This is the Microsoft News Group for the Developer Product called Microsoft
Visual Studio. You might try the Pinnacle website to see if they have any
