I tried installing from the set of cd's (on my XP pro). the installation
could not find a file that it needed. it asked me to retry, browse, or
cancel. after searching for the file several times, i had to cancel the set
up. during the rollback of the installation, the uninstall hung. the
progress bar stopped moving. i let it sit overnight and decided that it was
a complete loss.
Now i have downloaded the msdn single file version, and tried to install
again. every time i try to install, the progress bar will freeze at a
certain point in the installation. any attempt to cancel will result in a
hangup too.
Any ideas?

Do you have Norton Internet Security on your PC ? ; if so : uninstall it and
install VS.NET again !

Yes I do. I disabled all aspects of Norton before attempting the install.
But that still must not be enough. I had suspected that was the problem.
It has a script blocker that could be interfering. I will do what you have
said tonight. Thanks for your input.
