I have VS6 with MSDN Apr. 99 installed on my XP machine.
Everything worked fine untill I installed SP5.

Now, when I try to use VS6 help, I get the message
"Attempting to use an invalide compiled help (.chm) file"

What could be the problem?

Thank you,
alex

Kristyn,

Thank you very much for responding.

I followed the instructions in
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=279342

However, when I run hhupd.exe I get the message:
"The computer already has a newer version of HTML help".

No files are created in $temp$ folder

Thanks again,
alex

Hey Alex -

Do you get a message that asks which version you want to keep?

On Windows 2000 you will receive a file system protection warning that asks
which file version you want to retain. Choose the version of the file that
is contained in Hhudp.exe. You will then be asked, "Are you sure you want to
keep the unrecognized file version?". Click yes.

Otherwise, the best thing may be to follow the steps in this article.

Kristyn,

No, I did not get a message that asks which version you
want to keep. And no, I am not using Win 2000. My win2K
machine works fine. the problem is with XP.

In any case, thank you very much for your help, but I gave
up. Too much work for not such a critical issue.
