Problem:
Invoking MSVC6 works ok from Administrator's account, but fails from
user account (error loading SHSQL.DLL).
SHSQL.DLL does not occur in the registry at all, when I run a search
from that user account.
As I noted elsewhere, using filemon only shows MSVS6 trying to load
SHSQL.DLL when invoking MSVS6 from the user account, *not* when
invoking
it from the Administrator's account.
Anyone have any clue what causes MSVS6 to (sometimes) try to find
SHSQL.DLL?
Or, does anyone have any idea what checkboxes to check during
installation
of MSVS6 (Enterprise Edition) to cause, or not cause, MSVS6 to install
and/or
load SHSQL.DLL?
(The only Microsoft article I know of is only addressed at people who
once
had MSVS6 Enterprise Edition and then switched to MSVS6 Professional
Edition,
but I have *not* switched to MSVS6 Professional Edition.)

Hi
Great Information in the post!
In reviewing this information, it appears that we could have an install
conflict. You may want to try removing the product using the Microsoft
Knowledge Base article below and then reinstall it.

Yes, this is what I finally did; I deleted MSVC and MSDN and
manually deleted their registry settings, from the
user profile and the Administrator and All Users profiles.
Then a completely new install finally worked.
It was nice to finally get MSVC6 installed (after days and days
of struggling with it).
