Some Visual Studio 2008 Tools Missing

I recently installed Visual Studio 2008 Professional Edition and noticed
some of the tools, like WinDiff, OleView, etc, did not get installed.  I
have tried to change the installation options through "Add or Remove
Features" but cannot find any option to add the missing tools.

What do I need to do to get the tools installed?

Thanks,
Tom

Hi Tom,

Regarding on the tools you mentioned, they're actually included in the new
Windows SDK(v6.0), have you checked on your system to see whether the
windows SDK 6.0 has been installed?  On my dev box, after install VS
2008(team suite), it also installed the windows sdk 6.0(which contains the
windiff, oleviewer ... ).  If your professional installation hasn't
installed it, you can try downloading the latest windows SDK and install it:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=E6E1C3DF-A74F-4207-

also, there are more information about windows SDK on the Microsoft MSDN
blog:

Steven,

I checked my system and the following SDKs are installed:

Microsoft Windows SDK for Visual Studio 2008 .NET Framework Tools - v
3.5.21022
Microsoft Windows SDK for Visual Studio 2008 Headers and Libraries - v
6.1.5288.17011
Microsoft Windows SDK for Visual Studio 2008 SDK Referecnce and
Intellisense - v 6.1.5288.17011
Microsoft Windows SDK for Visual Studio 2008 Tools - v 6.1.5288.17011
Microsoft Windows SDK for Visual Studio 2008 Win32 Tools - v 6.1.5288.17011

Since you mentioned the tools are installed with the SDK, I checked the
"Microsoft Windows SDK v6.0A" folder on my Start menu and think these must
be the tools I expected to find in the "Microsoft Visual Studio 2008\Visual
Studio Tools" folder on the Start menu.

Did I miss something in the installation instructions that told me the tools
had been moved?

Thanks,
Tom

Hi Tom,

Yes, I've checked the install program of VS 2008 PRO, it does include a SDK
folder which contains several setup stuffs for windows sdk tools. Anyway,
if you have successfully installed the windows sdk tools(v6.0A), it should
reside in the following path:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v6.0A\Bin\

You can consider rerun those setup programs from VS 2008 setup material. Or
you can manually download the latest version of windows sdk 6.0 from web
and install it (via the link I mentioned earlier).

Sincerely,

Steven Cheng
