I can open VS2005 itself and then File/Open any file that I should be able to.
If I double click a project or solution or even a plain old .c, .cpp or .h
file nothing happens.
If I try to drag one of the above files onto an open instance of VS nothing
happens (the mouse cursor is the circle with line through it).
As far as I can tell the association icons are all correct. I pulled up the
Open With on a solution and it is set to Microsoft Visual Studio Version
Selector.
How do I use the filemon tool? I tried just typing filemon in the start box
and windows didn't find anything.
Hi Tony,
Filemon is not a built-in tool, you can download it from the following site:
#FileMon for Windows v7.04
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896642.aspx
Also, have you tried logon through a different account to see whether the
problem is specific to user profile?
Sincerely,

That web page says that filemon has been replaced with Process Monitor. Is
there a way to do what I need to do with PM? I try not to install any more
programs on my computer than I need to.
This is the only user on my computer. Would it make a difference to log in
as administrator?

Thanks for your reply Tony,
I think the process Monitor has a self-extract version that do not require
installation.
Also, sure, if you originally logon with a non-administrator account, you
can try logon with the admin account to see whether it work.
I've met many IDE related issues that are caused by something in user
profile got corrupted.
