I've tried numerous times to install Visual Studio 2008 90-Trial, but
continuously fail. Here is the portion of the log that contains the commands
that generated the errors:

Try burning your downloaded .iso file to a disk and install from there.

Thoungh I posted this on another thread, I do not know how to get a link to
the other post to paste it here. So please don't worry for this multiple-post:

Hi!

I had a similar error. First the code was HRESULT -2147023293 as you
mentioned.

My 1st step was to extract the ISO's content to harddisk (UltraISO trial)
because I had no empty disk to burn the image to
-> Nothing changed

The 2nd step was to install the Visual Studio Web Authoring Compunent by hand,
i.e. I executed WCU\WebDesignerCore\WebDesignerCore.exe
-> After doing this I got HRESULT -2147467259 with some more information
claiming that the setup program was unable to set the office user information
in the registry due to missing write permissions (Error 1406).

3rd: Rather than adjusting the registry permissions I tried a different step
instead (I don't know whether I am allowed to adjust rights, it's not my own
computer): I launched the executable with the /X switch to extract its
content to a subdir:
WCU\WebDesignerCore\WebDesignerCore.exe /X
Afterwards I launched setup.exe from the extracted dir.
-> I got the above mentioned error as a message box that allowed me to
IGNORE the problem, which I did. So WebDesginerCore was installed
successfully.

4th: I tried to launch Visual Studio 2008 Setup again. It installed
correctly without any errors.

Perhaps you have a different problem (not UserName permissions problem), but
hopefully this solution can deal with a couple of errors that can easily be
ignored by manually installing the Web Authoring Components.
