Hi All-

Would appreciate some insight into how this can be fixed.
I am trying to install VS 2008 on a machine:
- Running Vista Ultimate
- 150+ GB free disk space
- 4 GM RAM
- No previous install of vs 2005/2008 beta etc
- No SQL Express/SQL

I've tried the following:
- Used the clean up utility to uninstall .net 3.5
- Cleaned out the temp directory
- Rebooted
- Tried to download .net 3.5 and install that

While trying to install:
- I shut down the AV software (Trendmicro)
- Close every application that is open
- Stop all services that are non essential

This is what happens when I try to insall (I do a custom install and
deselect VC++):

- I get a message saying setup.exe has stopped worked
The log file has this:
[12/06/07,19:55:26] Microsoft .NET Framework v3.5: [2] Error code 34

I have installed VS 2008 on another PC running Vista business using
the same DVD - I burnt this DVD frm the ISO image I downloaded from
MSDN.

Any help would be much appreciated!

This is happening to me as well.  I see many postings in groups across the
net where there is some variation but lots of VS 2008 install failure.  I am
running Vista Business.

I can't begin to recommend something like this to design, build and support
my customer's apps when I can't even install it on my dev machine after a
clean build of Vista.  There are more strange ideas on how to fix this than
I have seen for years on any product.  And still no install.  This software
stinks.

If a similar problem. Or maybe 2 problems.
1) Tried to install VS 2008 RTM German on a Machine with Vista Business ->
Setup failed after installing the Component 'Visual Studio'. Further Items
were not being installed.

2) Tried to install VS 2008 RTM German on a Machine with Vista Ultimate ->
Setup failed after installing the Component 'Microsoft Visual
Studio-Komponente für das Erstellen von Webdokumenten' (Sorry, don't know
what this is called exactly in English). Further Items were not being
installed.

I did nothing special, just installed VS 2008 like I did when VS 2005 was
released.

Log for 2):
