Hi Eric,
From your description, you're encountering some error when setup the VS
2008 TS on a win2k3 R2 box, correct?
Based on my research, currently, most VS 2008 install issue are caused by
previously installed beta(or CTP) version(or related components).
Therefore, have you also installed beta version of VS 2008 or .net
framework 3.5 on that server machine? Also, if possible, I recommend you
clean up all the previously installed VS 2008 related components(such as
.NET 3.5, windows SDK 6.0....) and install the VS 2008 agains.

But no, I had absolutly no beta installation on this machine. So it should
work.
After some trial and error, I found the conflicting package:
"Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 SDK Feb 2007"
After deinstallation of this package, the installation of VS2008 worked.
