I am trying to install VS 2008 Professional RTM on a fresh install of Vista
Ultimate, and I was getting errors on the install of the .NET framework v3.5.
I installed the framework manually using the reditributed install and now I
keep erroring at the install for Document Explorer 2008. I can not figure out
how to get past it. Below is the log entry which appears to be where the
install is erroring:

Microsoft Document Explorer 2008: [2] e:\setup\..\wcu\dexplore\dexplore.exe
could not be unpackaged because it is not a cabinet.

setup.exe: [2] ISetupComponent::Pre/Post/Install() failed in
ISetupManager::InternalInstallManager() with HRESULT -2147467259.

Any help on this matter is greatly appreciated!

Hi,
I had exactly the same experience when I tried to install VS 2008 Pro Beta 2
under Windows XP SP2.
Any help would be helpful.
Olivier.

Hello,
Ditto with the problems.  Even had the same issue with the .NET install.
Did the same workaround.
I am trying VS2008 Pro on XP pro sp2.
