VS 2008 bombs on install .........................

Ok.  some other people in here are having the same problem.  Mine is
bombing on the .net 3.5 install.  See log for vs install (it's long
because I've tried a few times).  I've tried to install the .net 3.5
framework manually.  see log for .net 3.5 manual install.

OS: Vista Ultimate x64.  Had vs 2005 TS on it, removed it.  etc. etc
etc.

Any help would be appreciated.  IF I fix this and get it to install,
I'll post what I did here.

Well, here's what I did.
After the VS installer installed the pre-requisites, is when it
failed.  I noticed that in Vista, the windows update thingy screamed
at me to install this update (KB 110806 http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=110806).
Link is down right now, but Vista installed it.  Anywho, after
installing that and re-booting, the VS install went fine after that.
Don't know what it was, but it worked.

Also, during VS install, this one got installed; KB 929300 (http://
support.microsoft.com/?kbid=929300).

Microsoft, what are these updates?

This is what my installation is also doing but, after applying the patches
I'm still not able to set this thing up.
This happened to me also with beta2 version, but I didnt try again untill
the release... I think MS should know about this already...
These two links you mention here take me to a page saying they're invalid...
I dont really know if I should reinstall the OS... I have Vista Enterprise
here...

I'm on vacation between Christmas and New Years.  I'll probably re-
image then.  After this VS2008 debacle, it now takes 5+ hours to
defrag EVERY SINGLE TIME, My laptop won't go to sleep.  HD access has
slowed a little, amongst a littany of other problems.

I'm hoping that will help.
