Eric - 20 Nov 2007 14:45 GMT Hi, i tried to install the RTM version of VisualStudio on my up-to-date Win2003 R2 machine (en_visual_studio_team_system_2008_development_x86_x64wow_dvd_X14-26382).
.NET 3.5 and Document Explorer 2008 is installed.
But no success with the studio himself. The setup finish with an error after the "Microsoft Visual Studio Web Authoring" Component
Any advise would be helpful. Thanks Eric

I had the same experience with VS2008 RTM and I could solve it, I had to uninstall several packages and I dont really know which of them was interferring with the setup but you may take a look to the list here

Is my blog and is in spanish, but you may check the software list anyway if you dont understand spanish...

Mucho gracias, pero no etiendo que del.ici.us y tortoise tiene a ver con VS2008. Pero voy a probar.

This list is not necessarily all conflicting with VS2008 setup... they're which I uninstalled until I rebooted.. after that I checked again and I could set VS2008 up without problems. This list has also several Office beta (from which I suspect more than other software packages) and other software besides del.icio.us and tortoise that may conflict with VS2008, but I haven't try to install in the middle of the list... sorry not having more detail but I thought it might help. If you can let me know about your testing so I may narrow my list to a more accurate one in my blog also. Thanks!

But until now, no success. Before I habe deinstalled my windows, I have reposted my question for the MS Support. I let you know.
Thanks until now for your help
Eric - 22 Nov 2007 23:54 GMT Hi Eugenio,
I had success with the installation, when I removed the package "Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 SDK Feb 2007".
Thanks Eric
Eugenio Miró - 23 Nov 2007 00:18 GMT This means there are several packages containing some conflicting component or several conflicting component we could not identify yet... but, at least we may say this is a component conflict problem...
Thanks for the post.. Eugenio
> Hi Eugenio, > [quoted text clipped - 3 lines] > Thanks > Eric Derek S. Hinch - 02 Dec 2007 07:08 GMT I had the same issue, but mine is with Windows XP x64. I uninstalled anything considered "pre-release" and tried to install again. No luck. I will try uninstalled anythign with SDK in its title, and hopefully this will resolve itself. Weird stuff.

I was suspacting especially of the AJAX 1.0 Toolkit. I also did some temp directories clean up MS recommends to do. Where exactly is your setup stopping? You may use sysinternals tools (regmon, filemon, etc) to see what is VS2008 setup trying to open when explodes...

I have verified the files as being a good, and the install works on my vista box. This is for my XP x64 sp2 box.
Here is the dd_error_vs_procore_90.txt <begin text> [12/02/07,00:14:22] Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 64bit Prerequisites (x64): [2] e:\setup\..\wcu\64bitprereq\x64\vs_bsln.exe could not be unpackaged because it is not a cabinet. dd_install_vs_procore_90.txt error is:
<begin text> [12/02/07,00:48:48] Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 64bit Prerequisites (x64): ***ERRORLOG EVENT*** : \\darkhouse\g$\microsoft products - hinet\visual studio 2008 iso images\setup\..\wcu\64bitprereq\x64\vs_bsln.exe could not be unpackaged because it is not a cabinet. Thanks for any help, and unless I start uninstalled the Blend2 preview releases, I can't think of a thing to uninstall.

As I can see in your log you're getting a "-2147467259 (0x80004005)" error. That is an Access Denied Error, as far as I know... I'm guessing that could be related to the large path your using to setup VS2008, It could be good to try installing from a DVD image in your machine. I've used in my Vista x64 machine a product known as MagicDisk has a x64 version and worked at least once to install VS2008 on that Vista x64. Later on that same software begun hunging the entire machine so I uninstalled it, but you may give it a try mounting that iso image through the network and use it as a dvd on your x64. I've also found this article about mounting DVD Images on Vista x64 that could also work in XP x64 http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/mount-an-iso-image-in-windows-vista/ It also seems to be a good tool something called Deamon tools, I didnt use it but this is another link you may follow to see about that tool http://www.neowin.net/forum/lofiversion/index.php/t599966.html
Hope This help

This is an image directly downloaded from MS via MSDN subscribers area, burned to a dvd (fails), mounted (fails),extracted to local (fails), extracted to network (2003 server) (fails).
Hope this helps,

So it's always the same image you downloaded once... I'd download it again, I' know its a pain but It worth it if it works... maybe download another image, if you downloaded Team Suite, well, just download Pro, to see if its the image... That's my sugestion... I had some image corruptions so... Hope this helps

I have a fresh install of Win2003 R2 SP2 Server 64bit with all the updates. Freshly downloiaded from MSDN and burned to DVD. I'm installing from DVD. I also have a newly burned DVD with the latest VS2008 Team Development 64bit from MSDN. Nohting else is installed on the PC other than winzip! I get the same problem as reported above. I have tried with a custom install, default and full install.
Any help would be much appreciated.

I did add IIS to the windows components though. Then I installed VS2008 from the dvd. It installed without a hitch. I then ran the MS updates and all now works. There must be an update that screws with the VS2008 installation. I don't have time to do trials to see which one though but this did work.

James
