Hi,
I am unable to install Visual Studio 2008. After showing complete on .NET
framework v3.5. Error log shows following error:
[11/13/07,11:58:52] Microsoft .NET Framework v3.5: [2] Error code 1603 for
this component means "Fatal error during installation

I had Visual Studio 2005 (Team Suite) earlier in the system. I uninstalled
it. But also it did not help.

I followed best practices told in
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;Q319714

That also did not help.

Any pointers on this will be very useful.

Thanking in advance,
Ravindra.

I'm getting the same problem. I made a DVD out of the ISO, but it looks like
the path to the install files isn't where it's expected. The log refers to
e:\setup\..\wcu\dotnetframework\dotnetfx35setup.exe but the path on the DVD
is e:\wcu\dotnetframework\dotnetfx35setup.exe.

In the meantime, I'm trying to install .Net 3.0 and 3.5 independently to try
and work around that. Hopefully it won't be using those paths for the rest of
the install.

BTW, I finally got it installed by installing both the .Net 3.0 and 3.5
frameworks separately. That way, the installation didn't need to do it. I
haven't actually opened VS 2008 yet, but the install at least completed.

I got the same issue. It looks like .Net Framework 2.0 SP1 can not been
installed properly. I looked into the log and the common error is like this:

Info 1603. The file C:\WIN2003\system32\mscoree.dll is being held in use by
the following process: Name: setup, Id: 3724, Window Title: '(not determined
yet)'.  Close that application and retry.

Setup.exe is the installer of Visual Studio, how can I close it? Is it
ridiculous? Hope MS guys can figure this out ASAP.
