I just bought a brand new computer with Vista Ultimate pre-installed.
I also bought Visual Studio 2005 Professional Edition. I installed
Visual Studio 2005 and got some incompatibility error message near the
end of the install, to which I replied "continue" and the installation
finished. Then I downloaded and tried to install the SP1 for Vista
patch, but I keep getting this error message: "The upgrade patch
cannot be installed by the Windows installer service because the
program to be upgraded may be missing, or the upgrade patch may update
a different version of the program. Verify that the program exists on
your computer ...".
The good news is that I am able to run Visual Studio 2005 and was able
to create a small test application, but I foresee problems down the
road if I don't apply the patch. Anybody else experience this?
I've also tried the repair utility and I've tried rebooting, but same
the error message appears.

I figured it out. You need to first install the regular SP1, then SP1
for Vista.

PMJI. I have the same problem when installing the standard SP1 (before
trying to install the patch for VISTA). Any other idea?
