I can't get this right!

I tried to follow the tutorial on
http://www.support.microsoft.com/kb/837220.

The problem is that I need to have the links point to locations that
are based on where the user chooses to install my application. As it is
now (after having followed the tutorial) they point to a specific
folder on MY computer. I thought of the idea to lay the physical files
on a startmeny/myApp folder. But then I realised that the startmenu
doesn't have to be on drive C for all users installing my application.

Does someone got an idea how to do this?

thanks

I can't deal with using the "project output" choice because of all the
downstream results, like this one. Why not just put each of your files in
the Application Folder in the File System view? Then create a shortcut to an
exe by right-clicking on it. Then move that shortcut to a folder you create
in the Start Menu node in the File System view.

Thanks for answering.

Yes, I can do that. Unfortunately I do not get the correct icons that
way (unless I manually add the icons). I also experienced a couple of
times that the Word document did not open right away. Instead I got an
installer popup animating on the screen for a couple of second and then
the document appeared.
Have you seen this effect when doing links this way?
Is there an alternative way with which I can achieve these links?

An installer pop-up with a progress dialog is typically a sign that the
installation is broken and is repairing itself. If you install and then
change file or folder names you'll get this repair behavior. The application
event log will have MSI entries describing the error.
