I just go a new computer and installed VS2005 pro on it.  I opened it and in
the 'Recent Project's pain from the Start Page I see Create Project and Open
Project.  it's missing Create and Open Web Site.  I can to the file menu and
select New Website, but I don't have any options, it just creates a new
website.  On my old computer from Start Page I can select Create Web Site
and I get a list of project types to create such as asp.net web site,
asp.net web service, etc.  Any idea how to get this new install setup
correctly?

Thanks.

Hi,

Based on the description, you mean when you click the File | New Web Site
in Visual Studio 2005 IDE, you don't get an "Add New Web Site" dialog
window to let you choose the installed VS2005 web application's template,
it just create a new web site.

If so, how about that web site, dose it work OK or it is just an empty web
site?

I suggest you also check the stuffs of directory ...\Microsoft Visual
Studio 8\Web\WebNewFileItems, compare them with the one on your other
machine's VS2005 directory, is there any difference between them?

Thanks for your understanding!

Best regards,

Gary Chang

Thanks Gary,

No,  I'm refering to when I first open VS2005 and it defaults to the start
page.  At the bottom of the Recent Projects pain are 2 links:

Open:    Project
Create:    Project

In VS2003 there was also an option:

Open:        Website
Create:        Website

Are these now only available from the File menu in vs05?

Hi,

Thanks for the response!

No, they should also be available in VS2005's start page, like the
following:

Open:         Project...    | Web Site...
Create:       Project...    | Web Site...

I am not very clear why they are absent in your VS2005 IDE, I have checked
out internal database, but unable to find a similar problem.

Thanks!

Well then something isn't right.

I have 2 machines both with VS2005 installed and both are missing the 'Web
Site' part of the open/create sections.  I installed VS2003 and office prior
to installing vs2005.  I installed Visio2003 after installing VS2005 and
know there was a bug when doing this because it corrupted some xml files.  I
had to install MAXELL.0 again to clean up that problem.  I wonder if this is
related to this install order.  How can I proceed in trouble shooting this?

Hi,

I have checked our internal database, and unable to find a similar case.

I think the uninstallation of the Visio 2003 may be related to this
problem, but cannot repro the scenario in local enviironment. You mentioned
you installed MAXELL.0 again, would you please tell me what's the MAXELL.0?
I am not very clear about it.

Thanks!

Thanks for the response!

How about reinstall the VS2005?

You can uninstall it and remove all of its remaining folders, then
reinstall it.

Thanks!

Hi moondaddy,

I experienced the same problem after uninstalling and re-installing VS2005
on a different drive (with more space to install VS2005 SP1).
I found a solution resetting the VS settings to the defaults:
in the VS choose the menu Tools\import and Export settings and then "Reset
all settings". Now I have the Open and Create Web site menu items.

In addition, verify if on your old computer is installed the "Web
Application Project" Addin. If so, take a look to the KB915364 article to
download the package and the prerequisite patch.

Hope this will help
