Hi guys
I'm trying to install VS2005 Pro from the MSDN DVD (Disc 3070 - Dec 2005) on
a machine with XPSP2 on. Chuck the disc in.. setup runs..
Problem is, it keeps coming up with the error "A problem has been
encountered while loading the setup components. Canceling setup." and then it
quits.
No other errors before or after, it does the inital initialising setup
thing, then loads the setup screen with the "tell Microsoft about my setup
experience" tick box, and then when progress bar gets to the end, I get the
error and setup exits.
Help! Is there something I should know!?

Hi,
Before that error message occurs, have you seen any other Visual Studio
2005 installation program's window?
Since that error message is a general one, I am afraid we are unable to
find any specific information from it. In this scenario, I suggest you run
the vs-setup.msi directly with outputing a log file: just run the
following command line in the "Start | Run":
msiexec /i vs_setup.msl /l*v d:\setup.log
The log file may give us more detailed information about the problem.
Thanks!
Best regards,
Gary Chang

Note: The MSDN Managed Newsgroup support offering is for non-urgent issues
where an initial response from the community or a Microsoft Support
Engineer within 1 business day is acceptable. Please note that each follow
up response may take approximately 2 business days as the support
professional working with you may need further investigation to reach the
most efficient resolution. The offering is not appropriate for situations
that require urgent, real-time or phone-based interactions or complex
project analysis and dump analysis issues. Issues of this nature are best
handled working with a dedicated Microsoft Support Engineer by contacting
