I attended a "Ready to Launch" session when Visual Studio 2005 was released
a few months ago. Microsoft gave everyone who attended a plastic box that
bundles 2 CDs that contain Visual Studio 2005 Standard Edition, a DVD with
SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition, and a DVD with the MSDN library. I
installed Visual Studio 2005 Standard Edition from the CDs. Then I
attempted to install the MSDN library from the DVD. It appeared that the
installation progressed OK, but when the progress bar showed that the
installation was about complete, a message appeared that stated "Please
insert the disk: Visual Studio 2005 DVD". At this point it will accept
neither the initial Visual Studio 2005 CD nor the MSDN DVD. The message
just reappears. I am unable to complete the installation of MSDN.
Is this a problem with the "Ready to Launch" set of CDs and DVDs? Is there
a work-around? Can I get a set of CDs and/or DVDs from Microsoft that will
successfully install MSDN library for Visual Studio 2005? How about a
download of the latest MSDN 2005 that I could burn to DVD or CD?

I found the problem. The MSDN data came on a DVD and my PC only had a CD
drive. So I purchased a Kanguru Quicksilver DVD reader/writer. The
StarTech.com USB 2.0 PCI card I had installed in my PC 2 years ago could not
handle this device. I replaced it with an Adaptec USB2Connect USB 2.0 PCI
card. It read the DVD just great and MSDN installed cleanly!
