I've got an app that is crashing on a computer other than my development
system.
I'd like to use spy++ or mfc trace tools on that computer to see what is
going on.

How do I set up the tools on that computer without installing visual studio ?

I'm using VS 2005.

The VS2005's Spy++ and MFC-ATL trace tools could be used alone(spyxx.dll,
spxkkhk.dl, AtlTraceTool8.exe) without the VS2005 product package. But the
target machine should have the VC2005 run-time libraries (you can find that
redistributable in the directory ..\Microsoft Visual Studio
8\SDK\v2.0\BootStrapper\Packages\vcredist_x86\).

Meantime there would be some license problems involving this issue. It may
be inappropriate for an end user to copy several utility programs of the
Visual Studio 2005 product to another unlicensed machine. However this is
not a tech issue and I am afraid I could not help you in this regard.

I highly suggest you call 1-800-426-9400, Monday through Friday, 6:00 A.M.
to 6:00 P.M. (Pacific Time) to speak directly to a Microsoft licensing
specialist, and you can get more detail information from there. Worldwide
customers can use the Guide to Worldwide Microsoft Licensing Sites to find
contact information in their locations.

Thanks for your understanding.

Best regards,
