IBM Cleacase to VSS migration

Hi,

I'm planning a Clearcase to VSS migration with one of our projects.  I'm not
too positive that there are premade tools created for this already, so I'm
going to need some research in writing the scripts to do this.  I just want
to find out if some of the things I want to do with it is possible.  (I'm
not too familiar with VSS yet, so bear with me:)
1.  Is it possible to preserve the history of Clearcase elements and
branches?
2.  Is it possible to preserve the metadata in Clearcase (i.e. branch
labels, element labels,...)?
3.  What are some "gotcha's" I have to look forward to?
4.  Is it possible to preserve symbolic links?

Those are some questions I can think of right now, maybe more to come
later:)

I greatly appreciate any responses.

Thanks, thanks

Hi JoeD,

Based on my research, no one has ever get the history out from Clearcase to
VSS successfully, since the internal metadata of history is different
between ClearCase and VSS.

You can use script to get the files out from ClearCase and use VSS command
line tools ss.exe to insert into VSS database. Here is a thread discussing
on this same issue that you can reference.

For ClearCase issues, you can also consult the ClearCase support.

Hi JoeD,

I'd like to know if this issue has been resolved yet. Is there anything
that I can help. I'm still monitoring on it. If you have any questions,
please feel free to post them in the community.

Hi Kevin,

Thank You for the information.
I'm currently testing our builds on VSS at the moment (after importing CC
files), and I'll surely ask more questions when I encounter some problems:)
I'll consider this close.

Thanks again.
