I've just recently got a problem with VS.NET hanging.
I'm using Windows XP Pro.
Sometimes it hangs on the splash screen. If it makes it through,
then I can load a solution, but if I ever click on a menu button (like,
click 'Files' - no menu even pops up) or hit F5 then it just instantly
hangs using 99% CPU time.
It started after I installed the newest DirectX beta SDK, but uninstalling
that and uninstalling + reinstalling VS.NET and removing all plugins have
no effect. Whatever has changed, isn't part of the standard installation
or isn't getting repaired by the installer.
I really don't want to have to back up 120GB of data and do a format
+ windows reinstall just to fix this stupid problem, but its looking like
my only choice right now as I can't seem to fix it.
I'm praying someone has some ideas ??
Thanks
Alastair

Hangs can be caused for several reasons. I would first grab a Filemon and
Regmon log of the hang to see what might be generating the hang. Second,
you can use Msconfig.Exe, if you are on a Windows XP machine to
troubleshoot by stopping services. More than likely, it is a 3rd party
product that may be conflicting with VSNet.

The same thing happened to me at home! After many hours of reading and trying different things i solved the problem.
There is a corrupted file in the microsoft shared folder under common files (Program Files folder).
The thing is that i don't remember which one it is and under what folder.
Now i'm getting the same error at work and i'm trying to solve it!
Hope this guides you in the right direction!
PS: Do not email me because i don't check this email!
