hi

I am unable to install Visual Studio.NET 2003 academic
edition(professional+student tools). This is what I get when I run
setup.exe :

---a dialog box which says "Setup is starting. Checking product
information for system requirements..",with Visual Studio.NET written
on the title bar.---
and then nothing happens, absolutely nothing.(this dialog box stays for
about 5 seconds)

->however,I was able to install the prerequisites CD and all 3 MSDN
cds. But unable to install Visual Studio cds.
->before I bought VS.NET,I had downloaded the .NET framework version
1.1 redistributable.
->my system : windows xp home,128mb ram.
-> do i need to change resolution to 1024*768 ?

any other advise ?

Maybe the CD's are dirty and need to be cleaned. Or try clearing out the
Temp folder in your account's document and settings folder   (in my case
c:\Documents and Settings\Anthony\local settings\temp)

thanks a lot for your reply

tried clearing out temp several times...it apparently has no effect on
my problem.

as regards cd being dirty,dunno..could be, or it could be damaged or
partially corrupted..

If the discs are damaged or missing, you can contact  your local Microsoft
subsidary  for replacements. I know in the US, there's a number you can ring
to request them.

problem resolved;setup of VS.NET 2003 Academic successful.

a worm (some 'yaha' variant) which infected my computer last year had
changed some registry setting because of which my vs.net setup was not
starting properly.i tracked activity through filemon and rectified the
problem by using a yaha-killer tool provided by f-secure (god bless
them). setup went smoothly and even the earlier problem which i
mentioned (of not being able to directly open files) is now resolved.
MS support was incredible.

thanks

varun
