when I tried to do so.Well,I have previoused installed VS 2003.net in my
machine, then I thought it might caused the problem,so I uninstalled
VS2003.NET and all it's tools then retry, but failed too.

It can't not even get througth the first step, installing .net framework
3.5.I don't know why.Can somebody help ?thanks .

Yes. I have it running here on XP SP2. No installation issues. Your VS .NET
2003 should not be an issue, as they are separate products. I sounds like
you've now gotten yourself into an install/uninstall mess. I'd suggest that
you first follow the steps here to completely uninstall VS .NET 2003:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/824642

Follow all steps, even if you get failure indications.

Another potential issue, depending on how far the failed install of VS 2008
got, is a remaining footprint of VS 2008 Beta on your PC. If it got far
enough to update your registry, you may have to manually edit the registry
to remove references to VS 2008 and/or .NET Framework v3.5. VS 2008 Beta is
known to leave a footprint after uninstall and break VS 2005 during the
uninstall process. I don't know what it may do to VS .NET 2003.

Unfortunately, you broke beta software rule #1: Never install beta software
on a machine used for real work.

Thanks for ur answer :) I don't know whether  VS2008 has left footprints in
my PC or not,'cause it even didn't get through the first item --the
installation of .NET framework 3.5 in the installing process. I will check
for it.

The problem I encountered is weird, the setup program just reminded me that a
problem occured and the setup gonna be terminated,no explicit reason. The fact
is I have never installed anything relative with VS 2005 . Is that because I
didn't install it in my Administrator account? I installed in a domain
account.

Fortunately, this machine is not used for my real work :)

I gonna try ur links and reply u later to tell u whether it works . thank u
again.
