I tried to install VS 2008 Beta2 Pro on Vista Ultimate x64.

It failed with the message: "The following component failed yo install: MS
VS 2008 64bit Prerequisites (x64).

***ERRORLOG EVENT*** : ISetupComponent::Pre/Post/Install() failed in
ISetupManager::InternalInstallManager() with HRESULT -2147467259.

What should I do?

Thanks, Dan

I have the same error on a fresh install of Windows XP with SP2. No
other software is installed than the base OS and install still fails
with this error.

Have you tried to download from:
http://orcas.dlservice.microsoft.com/download/2/0/5/205e60e8-e587-427d-86a3-77f6
124cb9e2/OrcasBeta2ProX1394646.img
?

Oddly enough, I got a file with the same name and size but for me it worked.

Good luck!

I tried to install VS 2008 Prof Beta 2 on Windows XP and got the same error.
Using the file from Alan's link didn't help either. Any other suggestions?
The component, which failed to install, seems to be Microsoft .NET Framework
3.5

I was having the exact same problem on XP also so I tried to install the 3.5
.NET framework seperately.  It gave me an error but led me here

http://download.microsoft.com/download/d/d/1/dd18043a-fe86-4f57-ac22-791b30e6f04
b/dotNetReadme.htm#Installing

Performing the following steps fixed my issue and fixed the install:
2.1.4 Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 installation will fail on Microsoft
Windows XP or Microsoft Windows Server 2003 if IIS is installed and  the IIS
Admin Service is disabled

Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 installation will fail on Microsoft Windows XP
or Microsoft Windows Server 2003 if IIS is installed and the IIS Admin
Service is disabled.

To resolve this issue:

1. Go to the Start menu and select Run

2. Type cmd and press ENTER

3. Type "sc config iisadmin start= auto" and press ENTER.

or

1. Go to the Start menu and select Run

2. Type services.msc and press ENTER

3. Select the IIS Admin Service from the list. If the Startup Type is
Disabled, right click on IIS Admin Service and click Properties. Change
Startup Type to Automatic.
