Thanks for the reply and I will try the logging for more details.
I have over 7G free, so I thought that would be plenty of space.
Not sure why I should try a download when I have the latest DVD from MSDN.
Is there a problem with the DVD version?
As for reinstalling the whole VS 2005, that seems to be a radical solution.
If we keep having to do reinstalls of other software to make service packs
work,
it seems they are both defective and misnamed. It gets tiring just trying
to get these things installed correctly. For this reason, I always put betas
only on virtual machines, if I install them at all.
I wish Microsoft would concentrate on making all the current offerings
REALLY SOLID, rather than spinning out more whiz-bang features that don't
quite work.
Thanks again... (:>)

I'm not sure if you have tried the SP1 on other systems, does they also
have this issue?
I'm not saying you need to reinstall VS2005 everytime when you need to
install SP1, but since this is a patch, if the to-be-patched product has
some problems already, the installation might fail.
Anyway, please let me know when you have the installation log file. Thanks.

I have not encountered any other problems with my VS 2005 installation or the
SP1.
I try to keep my main installations clean.
I did delete files to get 20G of free space, defragged the volume, and tried
the install again. I still get the error.
I did look at the log file - I saw the first error after the EULA indicated
error code 2769 (Custom Action DDSE_CA_EULA did not close 1 MSIHANDLES).
I am not sure how to get the log file to you, since there is no attachment
option on this reply.
Thanks for following up...
