Hi All:
I 'm trying to install SQL Server 2005 Express Edition (with Visual
Studio 2005) and I get the following error:

Error code 1706 for this component means "The endpoint format is
invalid.

I used a new copy (fresh copy) of Windows XP SP2 and Windows 2000 SP4,
and I got this error in all these versions...
Any idea?

Thanks;
Gus

In a Windows Installer setup environment this is more likely to be the
installer error 1706, no valid source for the product. This could be because
you installed it before, and now it's going into maintenance mode and can't
find the original install source.

Hi Phil:

But I'm installing Windows (a fresh copy) for each attemp...(so, there
isn't a previous copy of any installed software).
The problem is with SQL Server 2005 Express Edition. Visual Studio
works fine.

Thanks;
Gus

I'm confused.
Are you installing VS 2005, *then* trying to install SQL Server 2005 Express
each time?
A SQL Server 2005 Express instance installs as part of VS 2005, so that
would explain the difficulty.
If you're referring to the SQL install *in* VS 2005, pardon the
interruption.

Hi:
No. I'm installing the complete package (VS including SQL). Everything
works fine except for the last step (SQL Express)
which reports the 1706 error. The only report I got from the beggining
is a warning about the minimal hardware requirements, but I don't
think this is the issue...
I tried to install the SQL Developer Edition and I got the same
error...

Any idea?
