i just did the visual studio update to sp1 but where can i go to see that
the update worked?

Help->About Microsoft Visual Studio, then scroll down the Installed Products
list. If SP1 is installed, you'll find an entry in the list
"Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 <your edition here> Service Pack 1 (KB926601)
