I'm getting the following error attempting to install Vs 2005 Ent Dev using
the files downloaded from MSDN:
"---------------------------
Microsoft Visual Studio 2005
---------------------------
Setup discovered the following problem:
Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 cannot be installed on this version of the
operating system.
You must install Windows 2000 SP4 or later, and rerun setup."
I have Win XP service pack 2.
Can anyone help?

I know that VS 2005 will not install on XP *without* SP2. Are you sure SP 2
is installed? In your situation, I'd be tempted to download SP2 and try
installing it manually.

Thanks PV, I'll try that.

On second thought, I've had numerous security patches performed by Cosporate
IT since that time. I really do not want to screw that up
My Computer says
"Windows XP Professional Version 2002 SP2"
Does anyone know what registry entry it is looking at to determine the OS I
have? if so, I could modify that entry.

Are the Microsoft "experts" monitoring these boards? I recently got MSDN
Premium and that was my understanding.
I suppose I could use one of my complimentary support calls. Would that be
best or will I just get a "flunkie".

As an MSDN subscriber, you can get support through the managed newsgroups,
but only if you follow the instructions to register a MSDN alias, then post
using that alias.
