Hi,
We have Visual Studio 2003 and MS Project 2003 installed in some
students labs. When running as an administrator, starting MS Project
works fine. But when running as a normal user, the following error
messages are shown by msiexec when it tries to install some VS.NET
components:
"Error 1606: Could not access network location wwwroot$:
Unable to get security info for this object."
Followed by
"Error 1606. Could not access network location VS
Developers (could not create group)"
What is the cause of this? I have ofcourse searched for this error on
google, but all the "fixes" I found didn't work, and most people were
talking about problems with the MSDN library, not MS Project. Some
fixes that didn't work:
http://www.missouri.edu/~fischerjd/howto/HOWTO%20Install%20Visual%20Studio%20.NE
T%202003.htm
http://www.dotnet247.com/247reference/msgs/39/195021.aspx
I also tried creating the wwwroot$ share and giving full access to the
non-priviliged users, but that didn't work either. The VS Developers
group exists on the computers.
I also ran Regmon/filemon, but that didn't give me much to work with.
Also when starting VS 2003 I get the exact errors described in this KB:
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=823245
But, this isn't VS 2005, and the Protected Storage Service is running.
I'd appreciate any help :)

Joakim,
http://www.dotnet247.com/247reference/msgs/44/223038.aspx
I was having the same issue (pulling my hair out - lost a day and a Sunday at that). Following Felix Wang's steps at the link above fixed the problem for me.
Good luck.
