I figured that I would give the Express Edition a try. I get two errors
immediately.
I was really looking forward to this new version. Sad to say that it
doesnt seem very well tested.
When I tried to run this app for the first time, I get a error box
repeatedly with the following msg:
Package load failure:
Package Visual studio Explorers and Designers Package has failed to
load properly ( GUID = ...). Please contact package vendor for
assitance....
Is this a common error ? Have other people experienced this same error
???
Is this harmless or is this a show stopping error ?
Error #2:
I just click OK to the above error and try to proceed in creating a new
project. I then get a missing file error. I wish I had noted the file
name or even saved the screen.
If this is what is expected from a free i.e Express Edition, then this
is going to be frustrating.
If anyone has experienced this or even found the culprit or work
around, please respond.
Well, I will keep trying,
Sunil

As a follow up to this message:
I went into Control panel->Change/Remove programs
A small message box comes up, ALL WHITE in color, with nothing in it.
I.e no information on what is happening, all blank.
This message box kills my cpu for a couple of minutes at 100%.
This goes on for some time. After which another screen comes up.
I select Repair from the internet for this. It seems to be installing
some components again.
It seems to be installing
Windows Installer 3.1
.Net Framework ( again )
Followed by VC++ 2005 Express Edition ( again !!! )
What is going on here ????
I hope Microsoft is keeping an eye on this group to watch out for
errors like these to remediate.

Let's start with the basics. Did you have any VS 2005 beta or CTP editions
installed on your PC prior to installing VC++ Express? If so, did you remove
the software in accordance with the provided removal instructions?
Your situation sounds very much like a corrupted installation, and I'd
suggest that you attempt either a repair install or a complete
uninstall/reinstall. Bear in mind that if you did have beta or CTP software
installed previously, or if your OS is not fully patched up to date, the
symptoms may reappear.
I had one Win XP SP2 PC that was not connected to a network. After
installing VS 2005 Professional Edition, several VC++ project types were
complaining about missing files. I then connected the PC, downloaded and
installed all missing critical OS patches, and all problems promptly
resolved themselves.
Last, your situation is not common. It has something to do with your PC.
