Install VS.Net 2003 Hangs up in VS.Net Prereq - Setup Runtime File

I installed Win XP Pro including SP2 and then I added IIS.  I was installing
VS.Net 2003.  It was in the VS.Net Prerequisites phase.  It had installed MS
Front Page and looked like it had completed Setup Runtime Files (the bar was
all the way over) but it said “Current Component is still installing”.

But it never completed.  I let it sit in that condition for more than 45
minutes. I had to use Task Manager to get it out of the hang up.  I noticed
that it was not using any CPU at all.  And then I had to power off.  My PC
would not Shut Down via the START.  On this way out I did get a message that
said
“Suite Integration Toolkit Executable was non responsive program”.  Another
time I also got a message saying “an Installation for Visual Studio.Net
Baseline – English is currently suspended”

Was there something I should have done instead of terminating the install?
What do I do now to successfully clear the terminated install.  Fix the
problem and start the VS.Net install again?

FYI – I do not know if it is related.  I am just offering additional
information.
After I successfully added the IIS component to my Win XP Pro configuration,
I noticed that everytime I brought up Windows XP it would take a long time
before it added the desktop icons to the desktop.  It was not doing that
before.  Everything was operable and there were no error messages or warnings.

It did that even after my attempt to install Visual Studio.Net failed.  But
since I have Shut down and restarted many times seeing if I could clear any
problems with the failed install of VS.net.  Now the Windows desktop icons
come up without any noticeable delay.  Just as they did before I installed
IIS.

I would appreciate any advice or direction.  I did not expect a problem with
the install or expected there to be at least an error message.

thanks,
hugh

To avoid any possible error, you may uninstall the IIS and Frontpage
component, and reinstall them under following sequence:
1> open the control panel -> add/remove components -> add/remove windows
componets ->install IIS ->restart
2> download the .net framework at:
[Microsoft .NET Framework Version 1.1 Redistributable Package]
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=262d25e3-f589-4842-
8157-034d1e7cf3a3&DisplayLang=en
install them and restart.
3> click install on your vsnet installation disk and follow the steps
vsnet2003 provides.
Then you should have the vsnet2003 correctly installed.

And if you meet any problem in this process, please don't hesitate to let
me know.

Rhett,
I followed your instructions precisely and then the instructions from the
installs and I was able to Install VS.Net 2003 with no errors.  I also
installed the MSDN for VS.Net 2003 as well as all of the Windows Updates.

You have no way of knowing how pleased I am and grateful. I have a career
experience with all levels of computers.  But I have spent most of my time
working for large corporations and all system related problems were addressed
by a telephone call for help and someone else to do it.

I thought with this install simply hanging, I would be alone with a very
messy problem.

I am completely new to Visual Studio, but I have significant Visual Basic
experience. I am very happy to get back on familar ground again.

Thank you.
