I've been trying to install VS.NET 2003 Enterprise Architect. Whenever I ran
step 1, the installer would start the "VIA Service Pack 4.05v" setup. Even
when I let it complete and reboot my machine, the same thing would happen
when I tried to re-run the installer.
Upon reading that the prerequisites could be manually installed, I did so.
Afterwards, I re-ran the VS.NET installer again and saw that I was now at
step 2! Unfortunately, that "VIA Service Pack 4.05v" setup starts again and I
can't get VS.NET installed. I do have a VIA chipset on my motherboard, but I
have version 4.55 (the latest version) already installed.
How can I get around this? And why would VS.NET even care?
In desperation,
Kevin

I found the following fix from Peter van der Goes for someone else's problem.
I have to say that this problem/fix should probably be in a FAQ. I thank my
lucky stars for this forum!
Thanks a Million Peter!!!!!!! You saved one machine the fate of being tossed
out of my second story window. ;)

Try this as a possibility.
This fix was posted for a similar problem and may well work for you.

Seems that Windows is running what is defined in App Paths for "setup.exe"
Judging by the error that you are getting, Windows is running
<system32>\setup.exe instead of the setup.exe from the CD.
Open regedit and navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App
Paths\Setup.exe
Double click on the default value and clear the value data. It should now
be blank. This should clear up your problem and allow you to install VS.

Hope this helps.
